In 2006, one of our consultants participated in a sub contract to design and development a $7 million Microsoft .NET education portal that leveraged Autonomy IDOL server to provide high relevancy search results. This was a high capacity server farm with over 60 servers distributed over three geographic locations. The semantic search, clustering and automated query guidance capabilities of IDOL server were leveraged to enhance the users search experience. These are some of the services that were provided:

  • Performance & capacity planning
  • Load balance & fault tolerance planning
  • Single sign on (SSO) security integration
  • XML content aggregation & federation
  • Social Networking & Bookmarking design & development
  • Secure web services integration
  • Data driven & external taxonomy integration
  • Indexing of binary (images, video) data

In a subcontractor partnership with Sapient Corporation, a $3.5 million virtual case management system was designed and prototyped. The requirement was for "occasionally connected" laptops to connect to centralized SQL Server databases for data synchronization updates. Third party tools such from Progress software and the Microsoft Smart Client Offline Application Block, were used in conjunction with secure web services and Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) to design a streamlined solution for the client.

Via a subcontract with Prism Inc., our consultant undertook the specification, design and development of a ColdFusion (Fusebox) web application. This full life cycle project was for the Cable & Wireless and utilized the database integration capabilities of Cold Fusion Application Server.

These are some of the services that were provided:

  • Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Management
  • Information Architecture
  • UML Modeling & Design
  • Agile Project Management
  • Requirements Analysis & Traceability Matrices

 World Bank Minimize

Semantic Web Systems managed the distance learning training program for the World Bank's African Virtual University (AVU). As the prime contractor, we developed Information Technology training material and provided certified instructors for courses that were broadcast by satellite in real time to fifteen different francophone and Anglophone countries in Africa.

In the world of training management, Semantic Web Systems is currently managing the IBM training, ground transportation and lodging logistics of Egyptian air force students for the Randolph Air Force Base.

"Office of Personnel Management"

During a subcontractor partnership with RMCI & Anteon, the US Office of Personnel Management launched a top grade Internet web presence courtesy of their debut web site in 1996. In addition the following services were also provided:

Web server farm design, specification and installation.
Intranet design & deployment
Web site design and deployment for the Department of Homeland Security.
Web site content and human resource management.
Search engine specification and deployment with various technologies such as Inktomi and Verity.

In a subcontractor partnership with IBM, an enterprise level search engine web application was designed for the structured querying of terabytes of classified data. In addition to Autonomy IDOL server, various search engine platforms and technologies were reviewed and analyzed for their ability to facilitate semantic search functionality. These included:

  • Endeca
  • Lucene/Solr
  • Jena Semantic Web Framework
  • Resource Description Format (RDF)
  • Web Ontology Language (OWL)

The project required Parametric searching & filtering, federated integration with external data sources such as Lexis/Nexus and the ODBC indexing of structured relational data sources.

Partnering with various prime contractors such as EDS and CACI, we participated in the design and development of some of the following exciting projects.

J2EE struts based retirement benefits Intranet application

Utilizing a classic model view controller (MVC) design pattern, a visually stunning J2EE application was designed, developed and tested for the DoD. This application integrated with a backend Oracle distributed data store.

Microsoft .NET SOA Research Project

This project was for a service oriented architecture (SOA) analysis of military IT infrastructure. The objective was to facilitate the sharing and discovery of critical operational data between various military installations around the world. The report covered the full spectrum of an SOA including the benefits and challenges and an architectural approach for integrating an enterprise service bus (ESB), Message Oriented Middleware (MOM) and web services. A key requirement of the project was to design a proposal for integrating legacy applications and existing web services with an SOA.
